Whether you’re a Walmart+ member or you want to order something you can pick up in store that day, Walmart can be a boon for savings. Right now, Amazon is holding its annual Big Spring Sale, which means Walmart has competitive deals so you can shop where you want and still save. So I’ve rounded up the best offers available right now on products that do well in our tests, from headphones to kitchen products to home goods and more.
No matter where you shop, it can be difficult to distinguish when something listed as a sale is actually a good discount or the same price it always is. That’s where our work comes in. Since Consumer Reports tracks prices on everything we test, we can look at Walmart’s offerings to tell you whether a product is worth picking up or passing by. We take the product’s quality and the average price into account to determine the true value of every deal.
In addition to Walmart, we keep an eye on sales at all the major retailers. Check out our Deals hub to find our latest coverage and the rest of the discounts we’re tracking.
Headphones
While Apple claims the AirPods 4 are improved over the AirPods 3, our testers were less impressed. They’re still solid headphones if you prefer not to have eartips stuck in your ear. The fit, despite Apple’s tweaks, is pretty much the same as previous models, as is the sound. These headphones were only $5 less for Black Friday, making Walmart’s price the best you’ll find right now.
If you want earbuds that exude quality, look no further than the Sony WF1000XM5s. This deal represents a real bargain on noise-canceling earbuds featuring strong bass, extended highs, and midrange detail that draws you into your favorite music like magic. They’re actually the best-sounding earbuds we’ve ever tested. The active noise cancelling is super effective, as is the transparency mode that helps you hear what’s going on around you.
If you’re looking for a pair of earbuds that prioritizes fit above all else, check out the Beats Fit Pro. These noise-canceling buds have soft silicone ear tips in three sizes, plus wingtips that fit into the pinna (the exterior of your ear) for additional security. They have actual buttons, too, rather than the touch-sensitive controls on many other models, which may make it easier to operate them while on the go. The Fit Pros also sound really good and feature effective active noise cancellation, making them a solid alternative to the similarly priced AirPods Pro.
While there’s nothing revolutionary about the design of Sonos’s first headphone, it is well-executed. If you like the Sonos brand, this is a good opportunity to get this model at a discount, as it doesn’t go on sale often. The sleek and even minimalist Ace is actually flattering when sitting on your head. The wireless noise-canceling model also offers warm, comforting sound and solid bass.
Kitchen Products
The Cosori Dual Blaze is a bit expensive, but we think it’s still worth highlighting, given its large measured capacity (4.7 quarts), smartphone integration, and all-around strong performance in all the areas we test. The monolithic exterior might not be to everyone’s taste, but with few nooks and crannies in its design, this machine is easy to clean. It also comes with a two-year warranty, a year longer than many air fryer warranties.
If you’re looking for a basic toaster that will serve up perfectly consistent toast for breakfast in the morning (or anytime for that matter) the Hamilton Beach Gourmet 22996 2-Slice toaster may just fit the bill. This model earned top marks in our tests for one-slice and full-batch toasting, as well as color range. The downside? The toaster’s exterior and crumb tray may be tricky to clean, our testers warn. But that may not matter at a price this low.
The 1,800-watt, titanium-blade PowerXL Smart Pro BL6018-1BP combines decent ice-crushing horsepower with one-touch, smart-sensing technology that adjusts mid-blend, whether you’re making slushies, smoothies, protein shakes, or salsa. But where it really excels: pureéing soup ingredients. The eight-speed, 10-pound blender comes with an 8-cup glass jar.
KitchenAid Semi-Automatic Espresso Machine
We found the KitchenAid Semi-Automatic Espresso Machine was impressively well-built, especially given its budget-friendly price. It may take some getting used to for beginners, but we found that it produced reliably good espresso shots. This model comes with numerous accessories, including a milk jug for steaming (the only model we evaluated that offered this).
Cuisinart ICE-21P1 Frozen Yogurt, Ice Cream & Sorbet Maker
If you’re interested in making your own ice cream at home, this could be a great lower-cost option. We really liked the consistent, creamy texture of the sorbet and ice cream that came out of the Cuisinart. This was true both immediately after production and after we froze them overnight. The sorbet was a bit icier and less perfectly consistent than that made by the other ice cream makers we tried. But that was easily remedied by dragging a spatula around the sorbet to smooth out some of the ice midchurn.
Home Goods
The Luxe Bidet Neo 320 was discounted this much before the sale began, so you’re not saving any more by buying it now. This dual-nozzle model performs impressively on the most important metric—how thoroughly it cleans. It also offers heated water, provided your bathroom’s layout allows for connection to a hot water line via the included hose. (The hot water valve needs to be within 10 feet of the toilet.) For the less handy among us and those short on time: The Neo 320 Plus comes conveniently preassembled, and you don’t have to fully remove the toilet seat to install it. This model is also designed to flip up on hinges, which allows for easier cleaning of the toilet bowl and surrounding area. However, you can’t adjust the angle of the spray nozzle, as you can with some models.
Squatty Potty Oslo Bamboo Folding Toilet Stool
The Oslo Bamboo Folding toilet stool is made of bamboo, so it has a sleek but understated aesthetic that’s reminiscent of a spa, and it folds and can be easily tucked away when not in use. It doesn’t attract dust, lint, or pet hair (as several of the stools we tried do), and is easy to clean by wiping with multipurpose spray and a microfiber cloth.
The Bissell ProHeat 2x Revolution Pet Pro Plus is a great choice if you want to own your own carpet cleaner, especially at this price. It aced our drying tests and demonstrated strong cleaning performance—plus, our testers found it very convenient to use. Its hose length, just short of 7 feet, makes it good for stairs and larger homes, and per tank of solution, it covers about 39 square feet. It also features carrying handles and separate tanks for clean and dirty water.
Looking for an air purifier for a very large space? This model from AirDoctor is rated for 650 square feet or more, and it’s CR Recommended. Most air purifiers are going to be loud, and this is no exception, but it is among the quietest (relative to other models) that we’ve tested when running on its highest speeds. It’s also better than most at removing particles at any speed, earning it a very good score overall.
The Casper Sleep Element mattress performs well in CR’s tests. It gets above-average scores in almost every test and solid ratings in CR’s surveys for comfort and owner satisfaction. It gets middling scores for average and large/tall side sleepers, as well as large and tall back sleepers.
Fimilo Candle Warmer Lamp
If you’re a fan of features, this lamp is for you. It’s got four different brightness settings and different color choices, and you can set three timer shut-offs for 2, 4, and 8 hours. The lamp height is adjustable, but our tester found the base to be a bit unwieldy, so it may not fit every candle. Its metal material also made spilled wax a little annoying to clean.
This humidifier, rated for small rooms, is a fantastic balance of quality and price. It’s a top-rated model; it handled every one of our tests with ease, and it has an indicator when the water level is low, so it’s easy to know when you need to add more (and it shuts off automatically if you don’t get there in time). With perfect scores across the board and a price under $50, it’s a no-brainer.
Vacuums
This Kenmore 200 Series 81214 performs quite well in CR cleaning tests, with a strong score for cleaning carpets and suction power, while its ability to clean bare floss and pet hair is stellar. Negatives? Handling is average and it’s one of the noisier canisters. Differences from the 400 Series: the on/off switch is on the body, it has a different type of suction control, and there’s no telescopic wand.
The Shark PowerDetect IP1251 comes with lots of bells and whistles, including a dirt detection feature and a floor detect mode that adjusts the brush roll speed based on the surface it’s vacuuming. It’s very good at sucking up debris from carpets and is even more impressive at picking up pet hair. The vacuum can be converted into a hand vac and folded for storage.
At 8.1 pounds, the Shark Ultralight PetPro HZ702 is extremely light. It’s outstanding at picking up pet hair and impressive at cleaning edges and bare floors, though it does only a so-so job of vacuuming debris from carpet. One impressive feature is that the top of the vacuum can be detached and hooked to the bottom for easy storage. It also comes with an odor neutralizer to prevent bad smells from developing in the machine.
Smart Home
The Ecobee Smart Thermostat Enhanced is one of the company’s newer smart thermostats. It performs well in our tests for manual operation and offers an array of smart features, but it’s not as proficient at learning your routine and making adjustments automatically. It features a new radar-based occupancy sensor and works with Amazon Alexa, Apple Home, Google Home, and Samsung SmartThings for voice and app control. It doesn’t come with one of Ecobee’s wireless temperature sensors (called SmartSensors), but you can buy those separately in a two-pack for $100 at Best Buy and Ecobee.
The Google Nest Cam with Floodlight offers impeccable video quality, strong data security, and speedy response times. Its features include activity zones to control what areas in front of the camera trigger recording, app/voice control (via Amazon Alexa, Google Home/Assistant, and Samsung SmartThings), and free object detection for people, animals, and vehicles. That last feature is a big deal because most competitors charge you a subscription for it. Cloud video storage and additional features require a Nest Aware subscription.
The latest Google Nest Cam (Battery) is a strong performer in our tests, offering terrific video quality, data security, and response time. It’s also one of few security cameras to give you monitoring zones, object recognition (of people, packages, animals, and vehicles), and three free hours of cloud video storage without a monthly subscription. The doorbell also works with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant for voice and app control. Cloud video storage and additional features (such as facial recognition) require a Google Nest Aware subscription.
TVs
The 58-inch Hisense 58R6E3, a Roku TV from 2022, does a nice job with overall picture quality, but its HDR performance and sound are both subpar. It seems to be a model found only at Walmart. It uses the Roku TV platform, so it has access to a lot of streaming services.
Unlike some other Onn TVs we’ve tested, which have done fairly well for overall picture quality, the 65-inch Onn 100012587 from Walmart’s private label brand does only okay in our tests and worse than that for HDR. Still, this is a very low price for a 4K set this size and might be an option for less finicky viewers on a tight budget. It’s a Roku TV, so it has access to a lot of streaming services.
Tech Gear
If you’ve got a Sonos multiroom system, the Roam 2 can be a useful addition to your musical life. It allows you to add Bluetooth capability to a speaker system that works with WiFi only. This makes it a reliable choice for a small Bluetooth speaker. The Roam 2 is a bit on the expensive side, even at the sale price, so if you don’t own a Sonos system, there are likely cheaper options that will sound just as good, if not better.
The JBL Flip 7 is a classic do-it-all speaker. It’s small enough to stuff into a bag, but delivers enough sound to provide background music at a barbecue. It’s IP68 water-resistant and dustproof, and the company claims you can drop it onto a concrete floor from a height of 1 meter and it’ll keep working. Also, according to JBL, it delivers 16 hours of music on a single charge. This is the sale price for the black model. You’ll find other options available for roughly $110. All represent a decent value, especially if you think there’s a good chance you’ll be abusing your new speaker more than a little.
The JBL Xtreme 4 delivers deep bass and adequate volume even in large rooms. It also features an internal power bank that can charge other devices, and the manufacturer says the speaker is dust-resistant and water resistant to 1 meter, claims that CR didn’t test. Note that the Xtreme 4 is quite massive by portable speaker standards, at almost 12 inches long and almost 5 pounds in weight.
This Denon model is a 2.1-channel soundbar, though it has built-in bass drivers rather than a separate subwoofer. It supports Dolby Atmos audio but not DTS:X. However, it lacks up-firing drivers, so it relies on audio processing to deliver an impression of height. It has decent overall sound but is a fairly basic model in many ways, not surprising given its price. It has built-in Bluetooth for playing music from a mobile device.
This compact all-in-one smart soundbar delivers very good overall sound quality, so it should appeal to even more critical listeners for music and movie soundtrack playback. It supports Dolby Atmos audio, though it doesn’t have up-firing drivers; instead, it uses signal processing and phased speaker arrays to create Atmos effects. It also has built-in Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant digital assistants.
The new Google TV Streamer (4K) has a sleek look, fast processor, and support for both Dolby Vision and HDR10+ HDR formats, plus Dolby Atmos audio. It also gets twice as much memory (4GB) and four times the storage (32GB) as the Chromecast model it replaces. The player has a remote-find feature and it leverages Google’s AI to make program recommendations.
Situated right below the Roku Streaming Stick 4K+ model, the Roku Streaming Stick 4K has most of the same features—including improved WiFi, support for HDR10+ and Dolby Vision HDR, and the ability to work with Amazon Alexa, Apple AirPlay, and Google Assistant voice assistant—but not the new rechargeable Voice Remote Pro remote control. Instead, you get a standard Roku voice remote, which lacks the hands-free operation, a headphone jack for private listening, and a lost-remote finder feature found on the Voice Remote Pro.
Apple AirTag
Much like trackers made by Samsung and Tile, Apple AirTags work best if it’s within Bluetooth range (roughly 30 feet) of your own phone. But, that said, there are millions of iPhones and other Apple devices roaming around out there that can pick up a signal and discreetly convey it to you when you find yourself searching, say, a park or a school campus for the keys you dropped. Is the tracking pinpoint accurate? No. But it’s close enough to give you a huge head start in your search.
Health and Beauty
GHD Helios Hair Dryer
The GHD Helios, while not as fast as a Drybar model or the popular Dyson dryer, still scored well in our dry-speed tests. It’s one of the loudest we tried, but it gave our testers voluminous locks. The Helios has two heat settings plus a cool shot, two speed settings, and a concentrator attachment. It also features a brushless motor, which could mean that this dryer will last longer than those without one.
GHD Platinum+ Flat Iron
The GHD Platinum+ flat iron delivered great results for all three evaluators who tried it. It has only one heat setting of 365° F, but it takes only 21 seconds to heat up and then keeps that heat consistent. There’s a silicone holder so that you can store it before it has cooled down all the way, and the swivel cord and pivoting plates make it easy to handle. Best of all, the On button is on the inside of the handle, so you won’t accidentally switch it off.
This pump spray from Repel is one of the best deet-free repellents and one of the best-performing of any that CR has tested, deet-containing products included. With 30 percent oil of lemon eucalyptus as its active ingredient, it earns an excellent rating for protection against mosquitoes and ticks. Plus, CR’s testers found that this product tends not to damage fabric or other materials, unlike many insect repellents.
Outdoor Tools
Despite its relatively low price, this 40-volt battery-powered chainsaw from Skil earned high marks for cutting and a top score for safety. It also did well in handling and ease of use. This model was selling for $149 last week at a few retailers, including Amazon and Lowe’s.
