The KeyFit 30 offers a good blend of crash protection, ease-of-use, and vehicle fit, CR’s testers say. It earned good scores in CR’s rigorous crash-test protocol and features several parent-friendly installation mechanisms that help ensure a secure fit across a variety of vehicles, such as push-on LATCH connectors, a leveling foot on the base, a LATCH tightener, and seatbelt lockoff. The Chicco KeyFit 30 infant car seat carrier is lightweight, weighing 9 lb., and the base weighs 8 lb., making it easy to move between vehicles as needed. The carrier easily locks into the base and can be removed with one hand, has a removable canopy, and is compatible with a range of Chicco strollers to be converted into a travel system. The KeyFit 30 uses flame-retardant chemical-free fabrics (look for ClearTex).
